Director Emeritus: On 20 April 2018, Alan Ayckbourn was appointed Director Emeritus of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough. Director Emeritus is an honorary accolade which denotes the perpetual status of an individual who has moved an organisation to new heights. It recognises more than six decades work with the company and his many contributions and achievements with it and to the town of Scarborough.

Director Of Productions: Following the death of Stephen Joseph, the founder of Theatre in the Round at the Library Theatre in Scarborough, the company annually appointed a Director Productions for its summer seasons from 1967 to 1972; the role was essentially that of Artistic Director in all but name. The role was taken by: Rodney Wood (1967 - 1968); Alan Ayckbourn (1969 - 1970 and 1972); Caroline Smith (1971). At the end of the 2972 summer season, the permanent position of Artistic Director was offered to Alan Ayckbourn, who held the role until 2009.

Lord Downe: The 11th Viscount Downe, John Christian George Dawnay (1935 - 2002) was a self-taught scientist and engineer, Yorkshire land-owner, philanthropist and photographer. Based at the family seat of Wykeham Abbey, near Scarborough, he was a well-known local figure who was part of the ADMirable Partnership triumvirate (alongside Alan Ayckbourn and Charles 'Mac' McCarthy) who bought the lease for Scarborough's former Odeon in order for it to be converted to the Stephen Joseph Theatre and was also Vice-Chair of Scarborough Theatre Trust.

Viscount Downe: See Lord Downe.
